Leadership and collaboration
I am a member of several professional organizations: the American
Library Association (since 1994), the Arizona Library Association, and REFORMA.
I am currently serving Webmaster for the Tucson Chapter of REFORMA.
I enjoy teaching and presenting about projects I have worked on. Since graduation I have presented twice at the Arizona Library Association conference and have been a guest speaker for four different classes at the School of Information Resources and Library Science (SIRLS).
While a student at SIRLS (1999-2001), I held office in student groups even before I was accepted into the program. I served as Activities Coordinator, Secretary, President and Webmaster of the Library Student Organization, and as Secretary, President and Webmaster for the Student Chapter of the Special Libraries Association. During the period of my involvement we nearly doubled membership, updated and put online the LSO Student Handbook, originated, planned and pulled off the first SIRLS Internship Fair, provided relevant programming, and improved the level of service to our distance students.
Committed to library science education in Arizona
I have also served on SIRLS advisory committees. While a member of the 2001
Facilities Committee we worked to upgrade the heating/cooling of the
complex, improve the courtyard, renovate the computer lab, and to develop
the multi-use classroom and conference room. I also served on
the Curriculum Committee where we overhauled the curriculum
names and structure, created more useful advising documents, and launched "SIRLS
Strong Start," the first week-long orientation session for new
students.
